Itinerary

Day 1
Spend a day with Chimpanzees

Ngamba Island Tour Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Discover first-hand what it takes to care for 49 chimpanzees living in a sanctuary setting where they have 95 acres of forest to roam every day. See how much food they eat, meet the team who care for them and watch chimpanzee social behavior up close from a viewing platform that overlooks the forest. At Ngamba Island you will be able to encounter chimpanzees as you enjoy other activities that include:
Ngamba Island Excursion: To get to the island, you may use a speed boat or a motorized traditional boat. A tour to this Chimpanzee Island is very informative, memorable, interesting and very incredible. During your visit you will experience chimpanzee viewing and feeding, shopping at the island gift shop, bird watching, experiencing other wildlife encounters, swimming on the equator, visiting a neighboring fishing village or simply sunbathing and relaxing.

Our day visitors can also ‘get their hands dirty’ by being part of the feeding team. This is an opportunity for you to feed the chimpanzees from the platform. On top of being able to feed your favorite chimp, you will also watch as the chimps excitedly try and gain your attention to receive food (this activity is subject to management exclusion and policies).
Additionally, you can enjoy fresh lunches prepared on-site. Please note, packed lunches and drinks to the island are prohibited, prompted by the difficulty of controlling litter associated with the personal items.

Optional Activities to take part in While at Ngamba Island.
Guided Forest Walk Ngamba: if time allows, you may do a guided forest walk. By being part of the team going out in the enclosure with the infants, you will be able to give them support by holding them, as there may be need, as they are introduced to the older individuals and also they are showed different parts of the forest to get them to learn that it is safe and a better place for them to be. You will be in the company of several chimpanzees ranging in age from 5 years to 9 years Chimpanzee Day Care Giver.
As a caregiver, you get to meet and interact with all the chimpanzees on the Island though direct contact with them is not guaranteed but possible under close supervision of a resident Caregiver. You will get an exciting opportunity to not only view the chimps feeding but also to participate in preparing their food and feeding them. You can assist Ngamba staff with any activities happening at the sanctuary that day like medical checkups, research and monitoring, preparing the holding areas for the chimps and administrative work, whereby you can help to type in the chimp stories and any other activities that your skills and experience can be used for.
